Maple Valley Family Photography: February 10-on-10

Time for my February 10-on-10, and this month, I have a very “real life” 10-on-10.

My 10th was a struggle… typically I awake excited for the 10th of the month, eager to see what will unfold as I photograph my journey.  But this time, life threw me a curveball…

I started fairly typically, with a couple “wake up and play” photos of the kids, which you’ll see… but then things took a turn for the worse when, during nap time, I accidentally spilled my drink on my dad’s laptop that I was borrowing–his Macbook Pro… *gulp* Not one of my better moments.

The rest of the afternoon was spent trying to research options for fixes online, hauling the computer to the nearest Apple Store over 45 minutes away (only to receive bad news) and generally burning up the whole day in “not fun” activities, only to arrive home after dark and near the kids’ bedtime.

Honestly, I was tempted to throw out the pics from today, do a “reshoot” on the 11th, and probably nobody would be the wiser. But instead, I decided to accept what the 10th was for me this month: mistakes and frustration and me generally wanting to throw a pity party for myself… but there were also some moments of joy and love and closeness with my family. And that’s what really matters. If I’m going to preach the “blessedness” of our everyday, then I have to embrace it myself.  I am learning that even on the “bad days” there is plenty to be grateful for. We have stories with the kids, my 3-year-old’s wide grin, a healthy baby… and all that is far more important than a broken laptop.

Here’s to a happier March 10-on-10…but grateful for this February day.

Also, this month I am joined by regulars Beth from Oregon, Tina from Wisconsin, and Amy from Las Vegas, as well as guest 10-on-10 contributor Jess Robertson!

Sometimes it’s tough to get up… even with your favorite toy (oddly enough, he’s enjoying his siblings’ play food).
